Psycho Babble

My psyche feels at bit at odds with itself. I will spare us long winded introspective babble, of which I have plenty, and will summarize with the notion that I had to dig deep into the smallest of every day graces to find contentment this week. It was a week of survival and decisions to keep it together on the inside and the outside. There were highlights, like when a friend invited the kids and I over for a mid-week meal and gave Myles a copy of the new Nathan Hale book. Amazing.

And when my niece arrived for a few night stay, bringing a fresh breeze of two and a half year old enthusiasm.

And we did make a barn that has inspired hours of play, thanks to this link my dad sent.

But overall life was such hard work. Nothing comes easy, as they say. And I can't seem to remember this going from one moment to the next. It is educating me as a constant rate of speed.

I will close with this delight of a board book.

Beep Beep

Petr Horacek's board books are addicting! My favorite is Beep Beep because of the heartwarming family destination of Grandma's house.

The reader follows the family door to door on their journey.

From the window of their own house. Through traffic lights and crosswalks.

Until they finally arrive safely at Grandma's. The best part are the windows, especially when you can see Grandma's expectant face poking through. :)

This is too cute, and a definite crowd favorite. Don't miss Choo Choo, Strawberries Are Red, and A New House For Mouse.

Flip-a-Face

Check out this fun board book series!  There's a whole fleet of them, including Big little, Colors, Play!, Who is Sleeping? Who is Awake?.  The changing animal portraits are marvelous and grab the interest of kids of all ages. It's a great early reader too.

It's a Little Book

Ok, so Lane Smith is my new illustrator idol. This guy is on top of the world. I had just checked out John, Paul, George, & Ben last week which was wonderful in its own right. Another entry for another time. But while Fiona and I were poking around the public library in Cohasset I found this GEM! Apparently its been on the New York Times bestseller list for a while now, however... better late than never! 

Little Donkey cannot figure out what the orange thing in his hand is, so his friend Little Gorilla (both of whom are wearing the cutest cloth diapers by the way) tries to clue him in.

I personally grow weary of asking toddlers silly questions, but this book does it for you. So you don't have to think of your own goofy material.

Gorilla's hat? I mean seriously, it doesnt get better than that.
