Vacancy

My mother-in-law moved in with us a week ago, Saturday.  Yes.  Since her arrival I have been on a roller coaster of emotions. It is weird to watch your life through the eyes of someone else. I think she thinks I am the busiest person in America. Whenever we are home together which is mostly all the time, I am running around the house in fast forward. Upstairs. Downstairs. Back upstairs for the dustpan. Downstairs to rustle around in the kitchen.  I am trying to remember, did I behave like this before she moved in? We are catching up on ten years of our relationship consisting of holidays and birthday visits.  Fiona is in heaven. Myles is enjoying the excitement too. And now instead of shouting complaints, he pulls me into the other room to whisper any remarks he has about what's for dinner, or who got the bigger serving of apple crisp, for fear of Grammy weighing in. Today out the door, she barked the classic, "Do as you're told!" and I felt a sense of gratitude wash over me.
So not only am I scoring major points with Eric, for hanging out with his mom all day, she arrived with a sewing machine and the knitting skills of a industrious pioneer. I am serious. Yesterday we went yarn shopping, and today, she is practically halfway done with a wallaby sweater for Fiona. I have taken a number, and found this scarf that I am hoping we can work on, "together."
All in all, things have been going swimmingly. And in our small seacoast town, which feels like its at the end of the world sometimes, it is quite refreshing to have a little Brooklyn accent echoing off the walls.

Wow. What a new adventure. I love that you're seeing the positives and she's showing you support with the kids. :)
